DETROIT – Warm temperatures continue today with sunshine and highs nearly 20 degrees above average, in the mid 80s. A cold front pushes into our area from the west. We will likely see increasing clouds ahead of it this afternoon and slight prefrontal moisture could allow for a few scattered showers after sunset, but the bulk of the widespread rain will likely arrive after midnight.
Harvest Moon
October’s full moon, known as the Harvest Moon, will reach its peak illumination tonight at 11:47 PM. This will be this year’s first supermoon, making it appear larger and brighter than an average full moon. It will also be the Hunter’s Moon, a traditional name for the full moon that is closest to the autumnal equinox.
When: Peak illumination on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11:47 p.m. EDT.
What: The first supermoon and the Harvest Moon of 2025.
Why it’s special: It will be the largest and brightest full moon of the year, appearing bigger and more golden due to its proximity to Earth (being a supermoon) and the moon illusion.
What to expect: A beautiful orange tint and a large apparent size when near the horizon around sunset.
The moon could be hindered by cloud cover tonight. Showers turn widespread overnight into Tuesday morning. We can’t rule out scattered non-severe thunderstorms, especially between 3AM to 10AM Tuesday. With a wet Tuesday morning commute, plan to give yourself a few extra minutes on the roads tomorrow morning. Much cooler conditions build in behind the front on Tuesday through the end of the week.
Rest of the week
In fact, we could see lows dip below average midweek as highs dip nearly 20 degrees from Monday to Wednesday. Highs the rest of the week will be in the 60s with low 70s possibly returning by Sunday.
ALDS Forecast
If you are heading to one of the ALDS games at Comerica Park this week, it wouldn’t hurt to pack a poncho on Tuesday, although rain chances will be very isolated and light by the time we get to the first pitch at 4:08PM. Wednesday will be drier with sunshine, but cooler as temperatures will slide out of the 60s at first pitch (3:08PM) and into the 50s throughout the game.
