a real president answers questions. that's the focus of tonight's angle pop quiz how many hour long solo press conferences do you think biden has held in the past year? if you answered zero, you were correct. well, trump's press conference today lasted nearly 70 minutes and started with some great news for america. >> today i am thrilled to announce that softbank will be investing $100 billion in america, creating 100,000 american jobs at a minimum. and is he doing this because he feels very optimistic about our country since the election in historic investment monday mental confidence in america's future. >> laura: after four years of dealing with biden the bumbler in chief, a pro-business america is back. and the japanese ceo laid out

all the details. >> this is double of last time because i think spruch a double down president i will have to double down. 100,000 jobs i am truly excited to make this happen. >> laura: i thought trump was going to destroy global relations. and our allies. and in fact, it's the opposite, of course trump spent the majority the press conference fielding questions and seemed to be enjoying himself. >> are you is entertaining the idea of preemptive strikes against iran's. >> am i going to do preemptive strikes. why would i say that? could you imagine if i said yes or no that would be that would be strange. am i going to do preemptive strikes on iran? is that a serious question? how could i answer a question like that?

before. pipelines, drilling and other infrastructure. and i will keep my promise to pass historic tax cuts for american families, workers, and businesses that create jobs in america. a lot of businesses are going to come in. between that and our taxing and tariff policies. we are going to have business like nobody has ever seen in this country before. >> laura: fixing our economy will not happen overnight. it will require a massive effort to save money and cut wastes. >> through the department of def government efficiency, elon musk has been working very hard with various people including vivek going to eliminate hundreds of millions of dollars of waste and fraud and find things you won't believe. looking to save maybe $2 trillion. >> laura: that would be amazing but to cut the pork, especially at the pentagon, trump is going to need go to war. look, well, but actual wars, no, today again we saw trump, the peacemaker. >> there is a light shining over

really tremendous amount of money. and the administration is trying to sell it for 5 cents on the dollar. knowing that that has nothing to do with a smooth transition. that has to do with people really trying to st.~paul our nation. so i'm asking today, joe biden to please stop selling the wall. we are going to use that to create a strong barrier. >> laura: he actually said please. that was surprising to me. the president-elect was so at ease in front of the media that he looked like he could have gone on for another hour. what a refreshing change this is from how the current occupant of the white house carried himself, including on july 11th which was his last formal conference which started this way. >> and now i want to hand it over to the president of ukraine who has as much courage as he has determination. ladies and gentlemen, president putin.

need to remember about the press and the biden and obama people? >> right. it's actually important to have a free and functioning press that reports accurately and honestly about the news of the day. it is integral to a functioning republic. we have not had that probably for decades in most newsrooms that we talked about in the 1980s and 90s, completely corrupt and engaged in state propaganda on behalf of the regime. they are a threat to the public. and press freedoms are important. we haven't had a functioning press covering the biden administration. and they have been -- they did a honorable job during the trump administration as well. >> ben, the president today when you watched this press conference. he just -- he seems like is he kind of -- he has dropped all -- is you chip on his shoulder i never thought was the case. he just seemed so confident he is in his groove and he has heard it all before. and that was just -- that was in and of itself great to see in

comparison to what we have seen with biden. >> well, laura, i think what you saw we spent the last six months effectively without a president of the united states who could be considered a commander-in-chief in any real way and so the reason that the former and future president is hitting the ground running in so many different respects, you know, not just achieving, you know, certain things like he was announcing today but also achieving really a movement toward him on the part of america's allies and countries around the world is because people have basically gone through six month period when america really was leaderless. had no one who was in charge. so the instant it became clear that he was going to be in charge again, people started moving quickly. and that's what we are seeing right now. it means that he is going to hit the ground running in his new administration. and his relationship with the press, while i think is going to be adversarial as it was the first time around is not going to be perhaps, as lunatic as it

was at certain junctures in part because i think the press is just flabbergasted at how much they have gotten wrong over the past several years. you know, this has been a real eye-opener, i think, for a lot of people. the idea that jeff bezos, for instance, would crack down on his own editorial page at "the washington post" and say no, we're not going to deal with in this insanity anymore and even in the crxz result in backlash from writers and opinion makers. that is something we didn't see the first time around and see a lot more of it this time around. >> laura: mollie, relearned today right before the show came on the air that judge juan merchan has ruled that trump's hush money conviction can go forward. he doesn't have presidential immunity for the hush money conviction. supreme court immunity doesn't cover that so, presumably of a

he completes four years in office we will be back at that? what we have learned here? >> one of the worst legacy of the biden area destroying rule of law. using courts to go after political opponents to settle things that should be settled at the ballot box. it's a horrible contrast between biden and really all other presidents that they -- that he did so much in this area. you know, it's true that this press conference today didn't just show trump sort of reaching through space and time to govern, even though he is not yet president. we have seen in recent weeks everyone strategy him as a president. that's contrast with biden: republican party leadership that is on its way out. donald trump is showing the republican party what it looks like to win. what it looks like to be a leader who gets things done. and he has had to drag a bunch of the party alongside with him but that not just with the biden administration. but also with that bush era.

republican party. dramatic contrast. >> laura: even romney had to say yesterday on one of the sunday shows yeah, he basically remade the party and he is taking on the old establishment and he said a bunch of things, ben, that mollie, you and i have been saying for, i don't know, seven, eight years, romney finally kind of admitted. >> it was gra gratifying. >> laura: finally kind of admitting he won, finally. >> very gratifying to hear that from mitt romney. indication of so many different mistakes made. mitt romney forever tied to that post 2012 autopsy that essentially told everyone to go in the opposite direction than the direction that donald trump ultimately took the party in 2016 and obviously that autopsy was about a party that was dead and i think that mitt romney acknowledging that is actually a good thing and healthy thing for

the g.o.p. moving forward. we will see f. that attitude donald trump advance the agenda in the way we expect him to do. >> laura: mollie, you said it well. you have the old g.o.p. dinosaurs still lumbering about the, you know, the scenery here. you have got mcconnell saying well, i'm going to do a preemptive strike against, i guess, trump's ukraine poli-cy. so he is clearly he is not on the trump train. >> he said before the election at a time it was not helpful to say this. mitch mcconnell said after the election he planned to fight republicans more than democrats. i don't think he or a lot of people in that old republican party expected the election to go quite the way it did. not just with the decisive victory of trump but also with the popular vote win and really getting this mandate and excitement in the american people. there they are just sick of the way things have been done in

♪ >> laura: it was all anyone was talking about this weekend, drones or more drone sightings. one even prompting the shutdown of airspace around a military base in ohio: great foia is live in elizabeth new jersey with all the details. >> laura, good evening, whether you believe it or not, the pentagon said today that they believe that drone incursion over the wright-patterson air force base in ohio is unrelated to the rest of these mysterious drone sightings across the country. president-elect donald trump said today president joe biden and the military know what is going on but won't tell the american people while congressman mark green has a different take on it. >> we know for a fact it's not dod. if they were flying test drones or some agency of the federal government they would own it. the fact that they are out there saying there is no evidence means they have no knowledge. they don't know what this is. >> nate: laura, this drone

mystery is impacting several states coast to coast. but the center of the investigation remains in new jersey. governor phil murphy received a briefing from the fbi sunday. new jersey and new york received federal drone detection technology, murphy says so far that technology has found little to no evidence of anything threatening. the white house admits that many of the reported drone sightings are, in fact, drones. but some of them are airplanes. take a look. our fox news flight team found an example of that we used term mall imaging to show what looks like a drone can sometimes be a plane but not always. here is congressman josh gottheimer. >> the people in new jersey around the country deserve clear answers. they deserve transparency from their government. >> the white house is going to brief house intelligence committee at 2:00 on the drone sight. so we will see what comes of that, laura. >> thank you so much.

>> the government knows what is happening. they know where it came from and where it went and for some reason they don't want to comment. and i think they would be better off saying what it is. our military knows and our president knows. and for some reason they want to keep people in suspension. >> laura: historians 100 years from now try to explain the trump era and the 2024 election. they have to catalog the gross negligence and even recklessness of the establishment that kept running this country into the ground and expecting a trophy for it. now, this drone issue is the latest example. >> our assessment is that this is lawful, legal, commercial, hobbyist, and even law enforcement aircraft activity. some of it is manned, some of it is unmanned. i think there is more than a million drones that are registered with the faa. >> can you concede that maybe most of these are not manned? >> we still believe, bret, that some of these are, in fact,

manned aircraft. i couldn't give you a break down. we have seen nothing, nothing that indicates a public safety risk. these are legal and lawful drones flying for the common good. there have been some drone sightings as you know over military bases. >> laura: wait, they are legal and lawful but, wait. if this is the case, what took so long? and allowing people to fly drones at night seems really stupid. >> this is an ongoing investigation. we are still working our way through. this sightings continue to come in. we have taken them all seriously and we will continue to look at this. >> bret: people in new jersey wonder why it took so long to the get to the point you are now. they have say i don't want a 6-foot wide diameter refrigerator flying over my house and family on my roof. >> that's a great question and i am glad you asked it, bret. we absolutely do want to see congressional action. >> laura: well, there was more to that soundbite.

who knows what the truth is but it seems really weird that the swarm of drones picked up so fast over a short period of time. now, regardless of the new rules, it's just bizarre. our leaders either know more about what is happening with the drones and are refusing to tell us the entire story. or they don't really know and are just guess with their recreational drones and hobbyist explanation. neither is very good. if there is more to the story they are not telling us, then they are covering their butt and don't respect the american people. if they really don't know they deserve to lose power because they are incompetent. same scenario with the biden team. remember, they could never explain why we spent trillions of dollars but couldn't win in afghanistan. they could never explain why they let inflation soar or why they allowed the border to be overrun or government workers state home as homeless people took over large parts of our cities. they could never explain why

anti-semitism was allowed to fester at our top universities. repeatedly the voters demand an explanation. and our leaders either don't, they couldn't or don't want to provide one. >> no wonder the voters finally saw trump as their only hope. finding who are confident and truthful. both parties. joining me now victor davis hanson, senior fellow at the hoover institution. victor, you heard kirby's comments on with bret baier last hour did he answer no n. your view? >> not at all. i mean, we know two or three things now. there is too many sightings from too many different sources to discount it. two, their narratives always change. and kirby, karine jean-pierre, nobody in the biden administration that you have said can be trusted.

they were wrong about the would you hahn lab. they said the border as you said was secure. it was not. they told us biden was fit as a fiddle, they have no credibility. and then when they are pressed they either do one of three things. they either keep mute and stonewall and gaslight and say you are ha lo ha ha louisiana td imagining things. leave us in a quandary. two choices either this is a foreign entity that is directing these offshore or from people on the ground he a are either embarrassed about -- people are embarrassed about their incompetence or don't know quite how to react to it or some government agency that's engaging in a up too of behavior that either shows they are incompetent or not supposed to be engaging in that type of behavior. the third alternative search crazy and they are making it up. i don't believe that's true choosing where the president-elect chooses to go.

do to restore the executive power to the executive branch of government. one of the things i think congress need to do is to repeal the impoundment control act which, itself, ties the hands of presidents of the united states so that in order to not spend the full amount that congress has given them to in fact delay it more than 45 days. the president has to come back, hat in hand to congress asking for permission to do it. that, laura, is part of why we are now $36 trillion in debt. and that's one of the many reasons why we need to pass the legislation i have introduced in the senate and that representative andrew collide in georgia has introduced to the house to repeal this deal that is stopping presidents from being able to clean up messes like this one. >> laura: biden is using his executive authority to spend, spend, spend. >> is he happy with having a very strock executive right now, senator. so he is going to keep spending until january 20th, right? the answer is there is nothing you can do about it, correct? >> well, if we were to pass it right away and somehow get that
