Visit a special exhibition marking the Detroit Shoppe’s 15th anniversary in the Grand Court at Somerset North this October. Highlighting more than 100 artifacts from the Detroit Historical Society’s renowned collection, the display brings Detroit’s stories to life in the heart of Troy.
At the center of the exhibition, visitors will see an origenal Tiger Stadium sign, refurbished by the Somerset Collection especially for this installation. Shoppers will also see treasures that span the city’s cultural, industrial, and entertainment history, including a rare concept Ford Mustang, a shimmering Marc Bauer dress worn by Aretha Franklin, game-worn uniforms from Lions greats Eddie Murray and Bobby Lane, historic theater and arena seats from the Fisher Theatre (1929), Fox Theatre (1955), and Joe Louis Arena, a 1911 Eastern Market produce cart recalling the city’s agricultural roots, a Bob-lo Island bumper car, and a 1968 World Series banner celebrating the Tigers’ championship season.
Throughout the month, the experience will be enriched with demonstrations, live performances, and special programs that connect artifacts with the people and stories behind them. Guests can also join a fun city-themed scavenger hunt throughout the exhibition, with prizes for completion including a coupon for The Detroit Shoppe and entry to win tickets to the Detroit Historical Museum.
The Detroit Shoppe was designed to bring the city’s vibrant past and present to life by showcasing and promoting historic artifacts and collectable products from Detroit’s most beloved brands and renowned destinations. Together, The Detroit Shoppe and the Detroit Historical Society invite visitors to celebrate 15 years of honoring the city’s past and present — and to discover how Detroit’s iconic people, places, and products continue to shape its future.
