Increased chance for periods of Atmospheric River Activity to Impact the West during the Busy Holiday Travel Season
Periods of increased atmospheric river activity is predicted to bring heavy rain to parts of the West Coast in addition to heavy snow at higher elevations and high winds to parts of the West.
Moderate risks (40 to 60% chance) of heavy precipitation and high elevation snow are predicted for parts of the Pacific Northwest and northern California, Dec 26-27.
A moderate risk of heavy snow is forecast across high elevation areas of the Northern Rockies and Northern Great Basin, Dec 25-28.
There is a moderate risk of episodic high winds across parts of the West, Dec 25-28.
Heavy precipitation and high winds could lead to localized flooding and landslides, particularly in regions that have recently received heavy rain.
Travel conditions may be negatively impacted by unsettled weather.
