DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z September 7, 2025
SMOKE: Western Canada/Pacific Northwest... Wildfires persisted throughout western Canada and the northwestern United States. Heavy smoke was observed this morning moving east from British Columbia, spreading across Alberta and drifting south into Montana. Fires in the Northwest Territories and Washington State also emitted moderate smoke and contributed to the eastern drift of smoke reaching Saskatchewan and the Midwestern United States. Lighter smoke reached as far south as the Gulf of Mexico and moved northeast along the Atlantic coast. California… Wildfires in central and northern California continued and produced Moderate-to-heavy density smoke plumes. A larger plume in central California drifted north into western Nevada. Heavier smoke spread into a larger area of light density smoke which covered the northern half of the state and mixed with smoke from the north as it moved east over the Rockies. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
