DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z October 1, 2025

SMOKE:
Central Canada/Southeastern United States/Gulf of America...
Wildfires remain active across Canada this evening, notably in western and
southern Saskatchewan and southern and east-central Manitoba. While heavy
cloud cover over northern Canada obscured smoke in the northern parts of
these provinces, light smoked was still visible. This smoke moved north
towards Hudson Bay and east towards eastern Ontario. Additional smoke from
these fires moved south into the United States before continuing further
south through the Midwest and Southeastern United States, and ultimately
reaching the Gulf of America. Agricultural fires in the Southeastern
United States contributed to the large area of light density smoke that
was moving southeast from the Canadian fires.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
