Congratulations to our 2025 India #TopCitedPaper Award winners, including those in our #ReviewArticle subject category. This category features research which finds that a new wave of #2D #carbon allotropes is emerging. Super-thin #CarbonMaterials that are similar to #graphene but have different shapes and properties. This is opening the door to exploring other #2DCarbon materials, and how we think about #carbon-based technologies. A society-owned scientific publisher, providing impact, recognition and value for the scientific community
About us
We work closely with researchers, librarians, and partners worldwide to produce academic journals, books and conference series. Our aim is to cover the latest and best research in the physical sciences and beyond. As a subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, any surplus made by IOP Publishing goes directly to the Institute to assist their mission to help everyone build their knowledge of physics and to provide professional support for physicists. IOP Publishing supports global schemes such as INASP and EIFL to promote the dissemination of and engagement with science in developing and transition countries. We provide a range of services to help the scientific community register, validate, edit, disseminate, preserve and maximise the discoverability and authority of their research. These services include: developing novel and innovative journals to meet new community needs; managing peer review; archiving and preserving content; hosting and distributing research online; enabling the discovery of published research; introducing new tools and systems to help authors demonstrate the impact of their work; and publicising journal papers and their authors. IOP Publishing is a strong supporter of open science and open access to scientific research. A pioneer in open access publishing in physics, we launched the first fully open access journal in physics, New Journal of Physics, with the Institute of Physics and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft in 1998. Since then, we have launched several new fully open access journals. In addition, we have introduced open access publishing options for authors in our conventional subscription journals. IOP Publishing combines the values of a scholarly society with the technical expertise and efficiency of a substantial global publisher. Part of the scientific community, we work in close collaboration with our authors, readers, institutions, librarians and partners to ensure that what we do always serves their needs.

Researchers at University of Birmingham and University of Sussex have introduced a method to extend the reach of gravitational wave detection, revealing previously hidden astrophysical events! Using cutting-edge optical cavity systems and atomic clock technologies, mid-range gravitational waves will now be detectable using instruments that fit on a laboratory table. How will this revolutionize #astrophysics? Find out here: https://ow.ly/c2Hg50X8517 #quantum

Last week, our Americas team partnered with Fairmount Park Conservancy to make a difference in their community! Volunteers from the team removed cages from trees that had outgrown them, weeded, and learned about local plants as well as the history of the area. It was a great opportunity to save the planet while deepening professional relationships - and a lot of fun!

We're proud to work with Not Impossible, an organisation on a mission to make publishing and the creative industries more accessible to young people from underrepresented backgrounds. As part of this collaboration, our Head of Content and Engagement Marketing, Claire Webber, recently took part in her first microplacement session. 💬 Claire said: “I had a really enjoyable session with Oluoma – she had some great questions prepared that covered different topics including my role and career, how she can approach interviews, and also my views on AI! I also found it really interesting to hear her experience of job-hunting in the current climate as a recent graduate.” At IOP Publishing, we believe that access and opportunity shouldn’t be impossible. This initiative supports our commitment to making the publishing industry more inclusive. #NotImpossible #CareersInPublishing #FutureTalent #EquityInAction

The black-box nature of machine learning models—especially neural networks—limits their adoption in #engineering. Therefore understanding the generalizability of ML models remains a crucial topic. This study introduces the concept of Compromise in Competition (CIC) from mesoscience to interpret ML generalizability. #MLInterpretability #GeneralizationTheory #Mesoscience #NeuralNetworks #AIinEngineering #IOPscience #OpenAccess #ResearchImpact #CICModel #MachineLearning
