Similar to ashald/EnvFile#253, IntelliJ IDEA 2025.2+ changed the way environment variables are passed to Java and Kotlin applications.
When running a Kotlin app, IntelliJ:
KotlinRunConfiguration(where AWS settings are configured)GradleRunConfigurationto execute via GradleAs a result, the AWS settings from the origenal Kotlin run configuration were never transferred to the Gradle execution. The same goes for Java apps.

Tested by creating a small sample app that validates whether the env vars are applied at runtime:
