Describe the bug

Audit SR announcement with:

  • NVDA x Chrome
  • Narrator x Edge
  • VoiceOver x Safari
  • NVDA/VoiceOver x Firefox

Request opinions from other a11y experts if SR announcements don't point to something obvious.

I think it makes little sense to have aria-current outside of a nav but as of today, I'm not sure what the proper choice to make is.

Reproduction steps

  1. Load screenreader
  2. Launch UI and make viewport small enough to see the mobile layout
  3. Navigate to nav bar and audit how the current page label is announced prior to opening the nav dialog
