How to Stain Concrete Garage Floors
Learn how to stain garage floors. Following these steps for painted and unpainted floors will help you protect and preserve your stained concrete floors using Sherwin-Williams products.
Painted Concrete Garage Floors
- Remove all old, peeling, flaking paint.
- Roughen the surface with sandpaper and clean thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion.
- Apply H&C® Shield-Crete® Water-Based Epoxy Garage Floor Coating according to label directions. A test area should be applied to check for compatibility to previous coating.
- Apply two coats of H&C® Shield-Crete® Clear Acrylic Glaze Coat according to label directions.
- For additional slip-resistance, H&C® SharkGrip® Slip Resistant Additive can be used.
- SharkGrip® should not be used in place of a non-skid finish.
Unpainted Concrete Garage Floors
- Prepare the surface by removing foreign substances. Scrape off any surface debris, such as putty, oil, old chipped paint and dirt.
- Apply H&C® Shield-Crete® Water-Based Epoxy Garage Floor Coating according to label directions.
- For additional slip-resistance, H&C® SharkGrip® Slip Resistant Additive can be used.
- SharkGrip® should not be used in place of a non-skid finish.
Concrete Walls
- Prepare the surface.
- Apply two coats of H&C® COLORTOP™ Water-Based Solid Color Concrete Stain according to label directions.
