Tropical Storm Lorenzo Forms

Tropical Storm Lorenzo has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, but as many storms have done this hurricane season, is expected to curl north and never threaten the U.S.

Here's Lorenzo

Lorenzo became the 12th storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season early Monday morning. That's about right on the average pace for the arrival of the "L" storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Another Northward Curl Ahead

Lorenzo is located far from land. It's about 1,100 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, a string of islands off the coast of western Africa. It's also about 1,300 miles east of Barbados, the closest island in the Lesser Antilles.

And it is forecast to remain far from land through its lifetime as a tropical cyclone.

As you can see in the map below, we expect Lorenzo to curl sharply north, then northeastward this week.

It will battle against wind shear and dry air. Both those factors will keep its intensity relatively in check.

No other areas are being monitored for development in the Atlantic Basin at this time. Check back with us at weather.com for the latest on the hurricane season.

The red-shaded area denotes the potential path of the center of the tropical cyclone. It's important to note that impacts (particularly heavy rain, high surf, coastal flooding, winds) with any tropical cyclone usually spread beyond its forecast path.
