World Rabies Day will be held on September 28th to bring awareness about the disease.
AnnMarie Chamberlain with Michigan Humane appeared on “Live In The D” to share some potentially life-saving information.
Chamberlain explained that rabies is a virus that’s transmitted through saliva and attacks the central nervous system. She stressed that prevention is key.
“There is no cure for it, and it is almost always fatal when it is contracted,” Chamberlain said.
She explained that the best protection against rabies is vaccination, even for indoor cats.
Chamberlain also stressed the importance of keeping your pets away from wildlife.
If you’re looking to add a furry friend to your family, Michigan Humane has multiple pets up for adoption, including a dog named Shakira who Chamberlain described as being “85 pounds of just pure love.” Watch the video above to meet her.
