On Detroit’s Westside, Cody High School will face Pershing in the October 3rd Friday night football game. This year Cody’s homecoming game will look a bit different—in fact, the school will debut something current students had never experienced before.
“Our Homecoming game, the first time in 20 years that Cody Band is going to perform,” said Savanna Saxton, a 10th grader at Cody.
Savanna is part of the school’s marching band, a program that is debuting after being on hiatus for 20 years.
“It’s very exciting,” Saxton said. She and other band members are looking forward to hitting the field for the historic performance, and their band leader, Damian Lyles, has a message: “We are back, Cody High School is back on the block.”
The “Out of School Time” grant for the program was secured by the Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation.
