“You’ve been duped” used to mean that you’d been taken advantage of or possibly ripped off. However, now there is new context for “being duped”. Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan joined this segment of “Live in the D” to explain more.
The new definition is an affordable alternative of a trending product with a similar aesthetic, but it’s not considered a fake - rather “inspired by”. Retailers are jumping on board by offering products with high desirability, at a lower cost.
“Live in the D” Reporter, April Morton, joined to share her experience with some “duped” skincare products. One of her favorites from Sol De Janeiro is 25 dollars, yet Jon found an alternative costing at just $1.25.
