The Forties: The Homefront
Goes to War

When the United States entered WWII, the entire country mobilized. Factories converted to military production and women joined the workforce as welders, builders, and code breakers. Twenty million Americans relocated to war towns. Hollywood and Madison Avenue promoted patriotic propaganda as celebrities sold war bonds. Yet the armed forces remained segregated, as did civilian work. Post-war, women were told homemaking was their priority. Discover how home front opportunities and sacrifices transformed America forever. Instructor: Joan Krawitz
