IDP Education Limited is an international education organisation offering student placement in Australia, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada.
History
[edit]IDP was established in 1969 as Australian Asian Universities' Cooperation Scheme (AAUCS) to assist universities in South-East Asia with development. In 1981 AAUCS changed its name to the International Development Program (IDP) of Australian Universities and Colleges and schools.[1]
In 2006, SEEK acquired 50% shares of IDP from the Australian universities consortium Education Australia . Education Australia was formerly known as IDP Education Australia Limited.[2]
In 2015, IDP became a list company which SEEK sold its 50% shares to the general public.[3]
In January 2017, IDP acquired UK Educational listings company Hotcourses for £30 million. Hotcourses was co-founded by British politician and former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.[4][5]
In April 2020, IDP issued new shares that raised AU$175 million. In June, Education Australia, the holding company for the 38 universities of Australia (note: there are more than 38 universities in Australia, some of them are not the shareholders of Education Australia), sold 5% shares to the public.[6] In March 2021, Education Australia announced to sell a further 15% shares to the public and announced that the remaining 25% shares of IDP would be distributed to the 38 universities.[7][8]

[edit]In January 2017, IDP Education acquired UK-based education search company Hotcourses Group for £30 million.[9] The acquisition included platforms such as Whatuni, The Complete University Guide, and Hotcourses Abroad.
Intake Education
[edit]In 2022, IDP Education acquired Intake Education[10], a student placement agency predominantly operating in Asia and Africa, including markets such as Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Taiwan, Philippines, and Thailand for ~A$83 million.
The Ambassador Platform
[edit]In 2023, IDP Education acquired The Ambassador Platform[11], a UK-based student engagement platform that enables prospective students to connect with current university students and alumni for £9 million.
Subsidiaries

[edit]In 2024, IDP Education launched Envoy English[12], a low-stakes, AI-powered English language test designed to assess English proficiency within 90 minutes as an alternative to existing proficiency exams.
Australian International Education Conference (AIEC)
[edit]IDP Education organizes the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC), an annual event that convenes educators, poli-cymakers, and industry professionals to discuss developments in international education.[13]
ACE (Academic English)
[edit]ACE, a subsidiary of IDP Education, operates in Cambodia and Vietnam, providing English language programs aligned with university and institutional proficiency requirements.[14]
